Geneva 09' Preview: BMW Concept 5 Series Gran Turismo Unveiled

bmw_5series_gt_concept.jpg
BMW is out to create another vehicle that no one has yet to ask for with its 5 Series Gran Turismo Concept, which BMW refers to as a Progressive Activity Sedan.

The concept is neither a sedan, wagon or SUV, instead its a combination of all three vehicles. It's overall shape is similar to the X6, but with a lower ride height. One interesting feature is the two-piece double-jointed tailgate. Just like the X6, the Concept only has room for 4 passengers.

Just like past BMW's concepts, the production model is expected to be very close to what we see here and is expected to be released sometime in 2010.

BTCC 2009: Knockhill

Another catch up post! This time we focus on the latest rounds of the British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill. Silverstone will follow tomorrow. The Knockhill rounds took place in mid August. A smaller field than normal as a couple of teams decided to skip this Scottish Round. After a few lack-luster results, Jason Plato dominated the first race of the day in his Chevrolet Lacetti from Pole Position. Local boy, Gordon Shedden was close behind, under pressure from the Airwaves BMWs. Continue reading at Speedhunters.

What are the Most Lustable New Cars for 2008?

It seems impossible to fathom that I am the only perpetual car shopper who is always looking for that next fun auto. While there may be many who do not consider themselves perpetual car shoppers many may believe themselves to be car aficionados or appreciators of fine autos. For those of you who, like myself, have put off the purchase of that next fun ride, as well as for those of you who appreciate the promise of the next cool auto, I have compile MY list of the Most Lustable New Cars for 2008. If you have put off buying that new car for a while these are the cars that I feel will make all the waiting worth the while. Some of these cars are still coming from their concept stage and have yet to be road tested by people outside of the manufacturers engineers, so for some their ranking is based on the Promise of what the car will be. BMW Lo Rider Previews New Era Of Factory Customs [Eicma]

While hordes of Hawaiian shirt-wearing enthusiasts are descending on Vegas for SEMA, there’s actually another, slightly classier show taking place half-way around the world in Milan. EICMA is one of the biggest motorcycle shows of the year and, so far, there’s not a tribal paint scheme in sight. The best concept so far is the BMW Lo Rider, which appears to be some sort of Flat Track-inspired performance cruiser. The thing is, BMW says almost every aspect of the Lo Rider will be reconfigurable on the showroom floor, meaning you could turn it into and old-school chopper or a comfy touring bike too.

Basically, BMW wants to muscle-in on some Harley-style factory customization, selling customers not only an expensive bike, but also a smattering of overpriced accessories. It sort of makes sense. BMWs have always been more individualistic than Harleys, so why not package that individuality into something they can sell?

Expect to see a similar model, using BMW’s 1200cc horizontally-opposed twin, to reach showroom floors in about two year’s time.
